The compact sedan segment in India is led by Maruti Suzuki Dzire for a long time. Even other players such as Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Volkswagen Ameo couldn’t challenge the authority of Maruti Suzuki. Now, CarandBike reports that Renault is considering to develop a new compact sedan specifically for the Indian market.
Renault is also considering to export the new compact sedan to other global markets. The all-new Renault compact sedan is expected to be launched in 2021. Previously, Renault sold a compact sedan in India which was based on the Dacia Logan. But the new compact sedan will be based on the CMF-A+ platform which also underpins the Renault Triber.
Renault is not trying to catapult the current segment leader, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with its new compact sedan. But Renault will aim to make a name for itself in the segment by challenging the likes of Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. The new sedan will be not only aimed towards the family buyers but also to taxi aggregators such as Ola and Uber.
The compact sedan segment also consists of other players such as Ford Aspire, Tata Tigor, Toyota Etios and the Volkswagen Ameo. Hyundai will be launching the next-gen Xcent in India. But apart from that, there will be no other new products in this segment as most of the manufacturers are eyeing the popular SUV segment.
