How to get best mileage from your car?

Drive in a higher gear if possible

  • Change the gears at right rpm, without reving the car too much. For most of the cars ideal rpm to sift is close to 2000 rpm
  • In case of automatic cars, don't press the acceleartor completely while starting up, a slow kickdown will allow more efficient shift

Don't carry unncessary luggage

  • Extra weight in your car correlates directly to the lower efficiency. This is also one of the reasons many OEMs are trying to reduce the weight of the car by using alternate materials like plastics, aluminium etc. to replace steel. Its always advisable to not carry heavy items that are not required
  • A weight of 100 kg can increase fuel consumption by up to 0.2-0.4 l/100 km

Check your tire pressure

  • Incorrect tire pressure, can cost you upto 15% extra on fuel costs

Use right engine oil on regular basis

  • An inefficient engine will cause your vehicle to drink more fuel

Additional recommendations

  • Don't apply brakes or accelearte very frequently. Avoid clutch riding
  • Use the vehicle momentum to slow down, sudden braking will decrease your mileage
  • Switching off AC when not required improves fuel efficiency
  • Frequent startup and shut down also reduces vehicle's mileage
  • Lots of accessories like, roof rails, or roof equipments, negatively impact the aerodynamics of your vehicle and increase resistance. This further reduces efficiency
