Though most of the cars come quite loaded these days, there are still multiple accessories available in aftermarket. A buyer needs to really know which of these accessories are must have and which are good to have. Below is Wheelmonk's recommendation on some of these options
Safety Accessories / Items (Critical to Have)
- Remote Locking: Convenience and more importantly enhanced security
- Fire Extinguisher: For safety of both car and passengers, in case of any accident or short circuit (especially for CNG vehicles)
- Tire Repair Kit: Ensure tire replacement kit is always there in the car (including jack and tire iron). Typically all OEMS would provide this.
- Safety Reflector: For emergency stop situation (especially critical on highways and dark roads)
- Fog Lights: Aid for foggy or low visibility weather (if it doesn't come as standard fitment)
- First Aid Kit: Not every car comes with a first aid kit. Very important to carry one and keep it in a place away from direct sunlight or heat
- Child Safety Seat: In India, we still struggle to understand the importance of child seat. We highly recommend using these.
Some optional items (or good to have) you may want to keep
- Flash Light: For any emergency situations
- Steering/ Gear Lock: For additional protection against theft
Must have Utilities
- Floor Mats: A must for every car owner. Protects the carpet from dirt, and easier to clean
- Seat Covers: While some cars already come with nice leather seat covers, if not, get it from after sales market
Other Optional Accessories, people go for
- Audio System / Upgrade: Basic ones might be available in most cars. Can go for upgrade. Get it done from a good dealer, issues of other electrical systems being tampered while fixing
- Air Freshener: For odorless experience
- Mobile Holder: Use it for taking calls or even for navigation. Bluetooth adaptor can give hands free experience, easier to take calls or even for listening to music
- Neck Rest: Additional comfort for your neck. Especially good for long drives
- Shopping Bag Hanger: Convenience for keeping shopping bags
- Mobile USB Charger: Very useful accessory, especially if you are driving on a long trip
- Parking Sensor:While some cars might find this as a standard OEM fitment, some can get it installed on their own. Protect cars against collision by emitting sound or video signals
- Jumper Cable:Useful in case of battery die out situation
Besides these accessories, some other common accessories considered by buyers include, car covers and small vacuum cleaners.
Also, Wheelmonk suggests, always carry your OEMs Roadside Assistance or Breakdown Assistance no
